Los medios de comunicacin cumplen un papel importante en los conflictos armados, no solo por su caracter informativo, sino por su capacidad de orientar la opinin pblica a favor o en contra de alguna de las partes en conflicto. En Colombia, los medios se han caracterizado por ser legitimadores del discurso poltico del gobierno de turno en busca de la homogenizacin ideolgica. La investigacin Periodismo, Conflicto Armado y Derecho Internacional Humanitario, busc en medio de la escritura del diario El Pas (Colombia), la utilizacin del lenguaje propio de los conflictos armados, es decir el que los Estados aprobaron a travs de los Convenios de Ginebra del 12 de agosto de 1949 y sus protocolos adicionales de 1977. Sin embargo, para el peridismo lo humanitario no existe, de ah que hablar de humanizacin de la guerra es imposible en la medida en que no hay espacio para la humanidad en la redaccin de noticias. Ms que una crtica a un medio, es la reflexin que deben hacer los periodistas sobre el papel que deben jugar en los conflictos armados, si bien stos no se podrn evitar al menos no se debern alimentar con las palabras que mal utilizadas matan ms y mejor.
