Laut der Bundestherapeutenkammer besagen die Daten des BKK Gesundheitsreports 2005, dass psychische Erkrankungen seit den 90er Jahren in Deutschland um 28 Prozent gestiegen sind , ebenso existiert eine deutliche Zunahme der Strungen im Kindes und Jugendalter. Bei jungen Erwachsenen ist der Anstieg berproportional, besonders betroffen sind Frauen in der Altersgruppe der 15 bis 29jhrigen und Mnner im Alter von 15 bis 34 Jahren. Neben dem aktuellen Anstieg des Bedarfs, fhrte schon die Herabsetzung der Volljhrigkeit 1975 vermehrt zu der Suche nach geeigneten Wohnformen, da mit 18 Jahren entlassene, junge Erwachsene, aus Heimen und Wohngemeinschaften ihren Platz weder in der Jugendhilfe, noch in Einrichtungen mit psychisch erkrankten jeden Alters fanden. Das SepplKuschkaHaus, ein Wohnheim, das sich auf junge Volljhrige spezialisiert hat, besttigt nicht nur die Tendenz, dass immer hufiger junge Erwachsene im Bereich Wohnen Hilfen bentigen, in der Konzeption wird ebenfalls auf die besonders schweren Erkrankungen eingegangen, die diese Klientengruppe auszeichnet. Hufig seien die jungen Erwachsenen an schizophrenen und schizoaffektiven Psychosen, die mit Persnlichkeitsstrungen einhergehen, erkrankt. Zum Teil bestehe zustzlich noch eine Suchtproblematik. Psychische Erkrankungen knnen das Leben der Betroffenen in smtlichen Lebensbereichen stark beintrchtigen. So geht beispielsweise hufig ein Verlust des sozialen Umfeldes, der Familie und des Arbeitsplatzes mit der Erkrankung einher.
