Durch zu lernendes Fachwissen, Noten und Konflikte mit unzufriedenen Eltern und Lehrern werden die Schler in ihrer Arbeitsfreude gebremst. Als Folge kann man neurotische Strungen, Schulangst und Schulverdrossenheit feststellen. Vor dem Hintergrund von PISA und IGLU stellen sich auch immer mehr Eltern die Frage, ob es nicht Alternativen zur staatlichen Schule gibt. Die gibt es durchaus und sie verfolgen meist ganz andere pdagogische Konzepte. Diese aktuelle Situation legt nahe, sich mit einem der fhrenden Reformpdagogen zu beschftigen. Laut Peter Petersen knnen Schulen auch anders sein, indem sie den Jugendlichen ausreichende Freirume geben, damit sie zur Eigenttigkeit, sowie zu gemeinschaftlichen Unternehmungen angeregt werden. Wichtig bei der Schulreform ist die Auflockerung der Schule als Institution zu einer freien Lebenssttte der Jugend. Der Jenaplan als reformpdagogisches Schulkonzept wurde zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts von Peter Petersen begrndet. Dieser ist eine Synthese aus verschiedenen Entwicklungslinien der Reformpdagogik und sieht eine freie, allgemeine Volksschule' vor, getragen von der Elternschaft und den Erziehern' , in der Jungen und Mdchen unabhngig von ihrem sozialen Stand, ihrer Religion oder ihrer Begabung gleichermaen miteinander lernen knnen. Im Vergleich zum damaligen Schulsystem sollen umfangreiche Reformen umgesetzt werden. Die von ihm entwickelte Pdagogik sollte nicht nur eine Verbesserung der Unterrichtsmethoden bewirken, sondern die Schule komplett neu gestalten.
