Peters Projection, the type of cartographic representation on which the atlas is based, was introduced in 1973. It is a method of depicting the world on paper that accurately represents the surface of the globe while maintaining the relative proportions of three dimensions. In other words, countries with the same area are of equal size on a Peters map. All the maps in this atlas use the same scale for surface area, permitting direct comparison of the size of different regions without emphasizing some over others.

I was excited to get the Peters World Atlas, but it had some dents on the cover when it arrived. The content is great, though, and I appreciate the unique perspective on world geography. Just a little letdown with the shipping, but it’s still a nice atlas!

Fantastic detail in this atlas!
I bought the Peters World Atlas for my geography-loving son, and it's just stunning. The true proportions make all the countries look so much more accurate than other maps. We love flipping through it for school projects and just for fun!

Great reference, but a bit heavy
This atlas is a wonderful resource for understanding global geography better. The details are impressive, and it really does show the true proportions of the Earth. However, I wish it was a little lighter—it's tough to hold for long periods. Still, I'm glad I purchased it!
