Product Description Discusses what life is like in high school, covering such aspects as stress, schoolwork, family, romance, and sports. From School Library Journal Grade 712 A collection of teen responses to questions posed by their peers. The information was gathered during a round of meetings (the first annual National Teenage Summit) in New York City in October 1990, as well as through summer camps and organized focus group meetings. In addition, certain schools encouraged students to participate in the datacollecting efforts. Topics addressed include types of high schools, personal relationships, guidance counselors, stress, cliques, money, sports/fitness/health, college and career options, and summer jobs/volunteer opportunities. The material is well organized and presented in an easytoscan, easytoread format. Very short chapters of questions and answers are followed by related boxed articles with advice to and from teens and "For Your Information," which has lists of books, helpful organizations, tips on surviving high school, college financial aid options, etc. Although the text sometimes sounds as though it were coming from parents instead of teens, there is enough youthoriginated material to hold students' interest. Despite the fact that much of the information seems to have been gathered from the East Coast, comments by students all over the U. S. will make this a popular and useful book.
