Anhand einiger ausgewhlter Textstellen aus den Briefen Petrus Damianis werden in dieser Arbeit seine Positionen zu den bedeutenden Problemen und Fragen, welche die Situation von Klerus und Kirche im 11. Jahrhundert betrafen, dargestellt. Zu diesen schwerwiegenden Problemen lassen sich Simonie und Nikolaitismus zhlen. Dies sind eben die Themenbereiche, zu denen sich Petrus Damiani in Bezug auf die dringende Reform der Kirche in dieser konfliktreichen Zeit oftmals geuert hat. Neben einer kurzen Beschreibung seines Lebens und seiner wichtigsten Werke soll auch auf die Verbreitung seiner Schriften so wie seine monastichen Vorschriften und seinen Theorien zur gttlichen Allmacht und Heilserwartung eingegangen werden.
