Thisbook presents three phasemodulation techniques thatallow the upgrade of existing transmission links tohigher bit rates using costeffective OnOff keyingand direct detection. This is achieved thanks to thesuppression of intrachannel nonlinear effects, suchas IFWM which become a major impairment for bit ratesof 40 Gb/s and above. The techniques are examinedanalytically, tested in numerical simulations, andverified in transmission experiments.
