Phytophthora megakarya est responsable de la pourriture brune qui ravage le cacaoyer en Afrique, mettant en pril la production mondiale de cacao. Cet agent pathogne endmique l'Afrique y a probablement merg suite lintroduction du cacaoyer au 19e sicle. Lhypothse la plus probable est celle d'un saut d'hte partir d'une plante native africaine. L'objectif de cette tude tait d'identifier les populations source et les voies de migrations de cet agent pathogne. Pour cela, nous avons slectionn 12 marqueurs SSR polymorphes et gnotyp 727 souches anciennes et rcentes, provenant de l'ensemble de la zone cacaoyre en Afrique (Cameroun, Gabon, SaoTom, Nigeria, Togo, Ghana et Cte d'Ivoire). Les rsultats ont montr que P. megakarya se reproduit selon un mode clonal strict. La prsence des 5 groupes gntiques identifis au Cameroun suggre une origine camerounaise. Les migrations l'chelle continentale sont faibles, tandis que la forte dispersion l'chelle du Cameroun met en vidence l'importance du facteur anthropique. Ce travail constitue par ailleurs une avance dans le domaine pidmiologique et des mthodes de lutte plus cibles pourront tre proposes.
