Rasant verbreitete sich der neue Stoff in der ganzen Welt und kam in Deutschland als Megaphen am 01. Juli 1953 auf den Markt. Aufgrund seiner chemischen Struktur wurde in der Medikamentenforschung eine neue Disziplin gegrndet die Psychopharmakologie. Heute zhlt die Liste der Psychopharmaka 4962 chemische Stoffe an der Zahl. Doch die Forschung und das Anwenden der Psychopharmaka verlief in den letzten 59 Jahren nicht immer ohne Hrden. Negative Ergebnisse gelangten nicht an die ffentlichkeit, Kritik am Einsatz der Medikamente, sie seien nur eine Ruhigstellung der Patienten und boten freie Betten fr andere, wurde neben der Verffentlichung der vielen starken Nebenwirkungen laut. Heute ist die Psychopharmakotherapie in Deutschland eine Therapieform, die unter strengen Regeln verluft. Die Therapie von Psychosen oder Schizophrenien gehen neben der rein medikamentsen Behandlung oft einher mit Gesprchen in Einzel oder Gruppentherapien.
