La floricultura contempla un producto de cosecha diaria y el uso intensivo de mezclas de plaguicidas durante todo el ao. Villa Guerrero,en un municipio localizado a 100 Km. al sur de la Capital de Mxico, donde el 70% de la poblacin trabaja en la floricultura y producen el 50.4% de la flor nacional. Laboran hombres, mujeres y nios, 8 horas/da, sin prcticamente equipo de proteccin. Se presentan los resultados del perfil hematolgico, inmunolgico y daos al DNA y los polimorfismos de susceptibilidad de GST, investigados en individuos expuestos ambiental y laboralmente a plaguicidas (floricultores), en expuestos solo ambientalmente (comerciantes del mercado local) y en no expuestos (comunidad universitaria de la Cd. de Toluca). Se identificaron plaguicidas en suero en el 50% los floricultores y en todos algn compuesto de su formulacin. Destacan los resultados del efecto antignico de los plaguicidas, al inducir la proliferacin celular in vivo; asi como el dao al ADN medido con el ensayo cometa en los floricultores. El uso y manejo de los plaguicidas y sus efectos es un problema que requiere la investigacin multidisciplinaria, como se muestra y propone en este libro.
