Fouling which involves the accumulation of unwanted material on solid surfaces is a significant problem in a wide range of industries. This book investigates the application of the PlasmaStream atmospheric plasma jet system to deposit novel antifouling coatings. The book consists of eight chapters which could be categorised into three major sections. Firstly, the use of plasma polymerised primer to achieve up to 15fold enhancement in the adhesion of antifouling silicone elastomers to steel is reported. Secondly, the antifouling performances of atmospheric plasma deposited superhydrophobic Nano coatings, evaluated both in the laboratory, and in industrial processes are detailed. A new ultrasonic abrasion technique, developed for evaluating the mechanical performance of these Nano coatings is also reported in this section. Finally, the physics and chemistry of the plasma jet system was studied using thermal, electrical and optical measurements. The book ends by summarising the main conclusions drawn from this study and recommends potential areas for future research.
