El estudio de la pobreza ha sido abordado desde diferentes disciplinas, no obstante, ni el problema de su distribucin espacial ni el anlisis de sus variaciones ha tenido un inters significativo en las ciencias sociales. El principal aporte de este trabajo se relaciona con dicho aspecto del problema en el territorio del Norte Grande Argentino. Los conocimientos logrados ms importantes podran clasificarse en cuatro grandes lneas: A) la distribucin espacial de la pobreza no present mayores modificaciones, la estabilidad fue el comportamiento dominante. B) El predominio de poblaciones aborgenes y campesinas estara relacionado con los grandes residuos o relictos en trminos de Bauman de la marcha del progreso en el Norte Argentino. C) Las similitudes entre los ncleos duros solo se manifiestan en la concentracin de miseria; los procesos territoriales, las sociedades que habitan dichos territorios y sus pautas culturales difieren sustancialmente. D) Pudo observarse tambin que la miseria no es inocua, mata y enferma. Los pronsticos no son alentadores, el problema mostr crecimiento durante la dcada y tendi a profundizarse.
