Solo hay treinta y cuatro poemas de Nezahualcyotl que puedan serle atribuidos con certeza: 10 se encuentran en Cantares mexicanos y 24 en Romances de los seores de Nueva Espaa. Tambin se le atribuyen varios poemas recogidos en la Historia chichimeca traducidos por Alva Ixtlilxchitl. Un bisnieto de Nezahualcyotl, Juan Bautista Pomar (mestizo tal vez y originario de Texcoco), escribi su Relacin de Texcoco para informar al rey Felipe II del estado y la historia de sus territorios. Pomar termin su libro en marzo de 1582 exposicin muy valiosa del ambiente histrico y cultural de este antiguo seoro y le agreg un captulo que llam Romances de los seores de Nueva Espaa. Se trata de una recopilacin de antiguos poemas nahualts. Se dice que fue fray Bernardino de Sahagn quien encarg este documento. El manuscrito tiene 42 folios, con 60 poemas agrupados por sus zonas de procedencia: Texcoco, Chalco, Huexotzinco, y Triple Alianza. Hemos confeccionado la siguiente antologa de poemas de Nezahualcyotl basados sobre todo en las ediciones y traducciones de ngel Mara Garibay, y en el ingente trabajo de Miguel LenPortilla.
