Esta antologa de Poemas de Csar Vallejo rene la totalidad de su poesa publicada hasta el presente. Vallejo es una de las voces poticas ms singulares de Latinoamrica. Desde sus inicios modernistas, adopt un tono intimista de fuerte carga social, con una honda preocupacin por el desvalimiento y el sufrimiento de sus semejantes. Su lenguaje se abre a la experimentacin, con diversos registros y con la peculiaridad de plasmar poticamente una suerte de proceso anmico hermtico, a la vez que cargado de reclamo de las libertades del individuo. En su primer periodo escribe Los heraldos negros (1918), con algunos poemas de logros expresivos notables. Despus, ms influido por las corrientes artsticas y literarias vanguardistas, Vallejo escribir un libro que an hoy sigue causando admiracin: Trilce (1922). Pstumamente aparecieron Espaa, aparta de m este cliz (1939), libro de tono admonitorio contra la injusticia ante la evidencia de la derrota republicana, Poemas en prosa (19281938), Poemas humanos (19321937), y otros versos aparecidos en antologas. De ellos, y junto a Trilce, quiz es Poemas humanos el que contiene los poemas ms representativos de su innovador registro potico, as como de su peculiar visin social y humana, de rasgos apocalpticos y desesperanzados respecto al tipo de sociedad alienada e injusta que vea aproximarse. Los Poemas humanos de Csar Vallejo, fueron escritos entre 1931 y 1937, y publicados en Pars en 1939 por Georgette Vallejo, viuda del poeta, junto a los Poemas en prosa y Espaa, aparta de m este cliz. Tras la edicin parisina de 1939 aparecieron otras ediciones: Poesas completas. 19181938, con recopilacin, prlogo y notas de Csar Mir (Buenos Aires, Editorial Losada, 1949). Y en 1968, Georgette public la Obra potica completa, junto a los manuscritos originales en facsmiles; all fueron organizados los poemas pstumos de Vallejo en el orden siguiente: Poemas en prosa (19231929), Poemas humanos (19311937), y Espaa, aparta de m este cliz (1937) En 1988 apareci otra edicin de la poesa de Vallejo, bajo el ttulo de Csar Vallejo. Obra potica, edicin crtica coordinada por Amrico Ferrari que opt por agrupar los poemas pstumos de Vallejo (Poemas de Pars) bajo los epgrafes de Poemas pstumos I y Poemas pstumos II. Sin embargo, la distribucin impuesta por la edicin de Francisco Moncloa Editores, de 1968, sigue siendo la ms citada.
