Este libro es el resultado de varios aos de trabajo en torno a algunos temas confluyentes. En primer lugar, el estudio de la obra de los escritores cannicos de la llamada Generacin de 1927 espaola. Despus, el inters y la indagacin de los vnculos culturales entre Uruguay y Espaa en las dcadas de los aos veinte, treinta y cuarenta del siglo XX, sobre todo a travs de las activsimas revistas surgidas a partir de las vanguardias histricas, pero tambin gracias a la correspondencia entre escritores y los viajes culturales transatlnticos en uno y otro sentido. Una primera intuicin dispar las siguientes: el inters por resear las repercusiones del Tercer Centenario de Luis de Gngora en el Ro de la Plata, en 1927, a efectos de cotejarlo con las celebraciones espaolas que permitieron la entrada en la escena literaria del grupo potico al que pertenecieron Garca Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Pedro Salinas, Jos Bergamn, entre otros. La otra zona de investigacin que fue surgiendo paralela a estos intereses se centra en los dilogos personales y creativos entre la "Generacin de 1945" uruguaya con el 27 espaol.
