Der Ausdruek 'Politisehe Kultur' ist zu einem festen Begriff und zu einem Symbol in der politisehen Spraehe der Bundesrepublik geworden. Die hiermit verbundene Viel deutigkeit ist fiir eine wissensehaftliehe Verwendung nieht immer forderlieh. Anderer seits hat die Popularitat des Begriffes und seine meist moraliseh intendierte Besetzung in der politisehen Spraehe der Gegenwart aueh Vorteile. Denn sowohl im normativen Gebraueh als aueh zur Besehreibung und Analyse von Saehverhalten bezeiehnet und kritisiert der Begriff Tatbestande, die es wert sind, in das politisehe Bewugtsein geho ben zu werden. Der Einzug des Begriffes selbst in unsere Umgangsspraehe so konnte man paradox formulieren ist daher fiir die politisehe Kultur der Bundesrepublik zu begriigen. In der Einleitung dieses Bandes und in mehreren Einzelbeitragen werden die Genese des Begriffes und die naheren Umstande seines Gebrauehs in der bundesdeutsehen Po litikwissensehaft dargelegt. Die hiermit verbundene Forsehungsriehtung erfahrt damit eine erste umfassende Bilanzierung. Vieles, insbesondere aueh die komparative Einbin dung des Paradigm as 'Politisehe Kultur', bleibt aber noeh zu leisten. Der vorliegende Band ist daher noeh nieht als Reflexion des Gebietes Politisehe Kultur insgesamt zu verstehen. Dafiir ist der breite Aufbrueh in dieses Gebiet noeh vor zu kurzer Zeit er folgt, namlieh erst Ende der siebziger Jahre. Er versteht sieh aber als Aufforderung weiter voranzusehreiten.
