En este libro se analiza la evolucin de la enseanza de la lengua latina en el panorama educativo jesutico espaol a lo largo del siglo XVIII. Tanto la labor de la Compaa de Jess como el aprendizaje de la lengua latina constituyeron pilares indiscutibles en la historia de la educacin en la poca Moderna. Nuestro estudio se centra, especialmente, en el modelo tanto educativo como lingstico que aplicaron los jesuitas a la gramtica latina, y las crticas que, a su vez, suscit desde sectores ms reformistas de la intelectualidad espaola. El mtodo ignaciano se desarrolla en el siglo XVII y responde a una mentalidad barroca y contrarreformista. A lo largo del siglo XVIII los cambios tanto polticos, como sociales y culturales empujarn a que los jesuitas vayan modificando sus mtodos de enseanza y vayan acogiendo un modelo ms racionalista y filolgico correspondiente al ideal ilustrado de educacin. Desde una perspectiva tanto de la lingstica como de la historia de las ideas nuestro libro pretende ahondar en el cambio determinante de la enseanza barroca a la ilustrada en un siglo tan controvertido y determinante para la configuracin de Espaa como fue el XVIII.
