Design geht flieend in den Kunst und Publikumsgeschmack ber und stellt die konventionellen Fragen der Museen und Galerien, nach dem was Kunst sei, auf den Kopf. Das Triviale wird zum allgemeinen Interesse erhoben. Vor allen Dingen stellte die Pop Art aber eine Gegenbewegung zu den Abstrakten Expressionisten dar. Ihrer subjektiven, emotional geleiteten Kunstauffassung stellten die PopKnstler eine gegenstndliche, khl berechnende, konzeptionelle Kunst entgegen. Unter Verwendung von Fotos, die sie aus den Medien beziehen, schaffen sie ihre Werke. Dabei nimmt die Pop Art Kommerzialisierung, Manipulation durch die Massenmedien und deren vorgefertigte Vorbilder und Idole als ihre Themen nicht immer kritisch in den Blickpunkt. Eine etwas andere Haltung vertritt jedoch die englische PopArt gegenber der zunehmenden Amerikanisierung in der Nachkriegszeit, denn Pop ist unbedingt eine westliche Kulturerscheinung' , die sich in Folge des kapitalistischen Marktes und Technologien entwickelte. Konsum und Verhaltensmuster wurden sozialwissenschaftlich untersucht und fr MarketingSysteme nutzbar gemacht, woraufhin die zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen und das individuelle Verhalten der Menschen gestrt wurden.
