This volume, the fifth in the Multinational Managers and Developing Country Concerns series, derives its focus from the key social issue facing our world today: the misallocation of resources and opportunities among its population. Author Lee A. Tavis, editor and coeditor of the series' first four volumes, summarizes his views on that issue and discusses at length not only the serious development gap between industrialized and developing countries, but also the widening gap within the developing countries themselves. He demonstrates how the institutions and individuals that are tied to the global economic/financial system must face the facts of bifurcated opportunities and separate them from the rhetoric on all sides. Tavis's analysis is directed to the manager responsible for allocating a firm's resources (human, technological, material, financial) among its global activities, and his arguments link the global system to potential managerial action.
