A convenient single volume handbook featuring the most important topics in spectroscopyThis valuable handbook is based on topics presented in the CRC Handbook of Spectroscopy, Volumes I and II, published in 1974, and Volume III, published in 1981. The information has been condensed (by the original contributor, when possible) so that only the most important information from the original three volumes has been retained and updated. The topics covered include ESCA flame photometry; atomic absorption and emission spectroscopy, including plasma emission; infrared spectroscopy; Raman spectroscopy; ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy; electron spin resonance, Xray spectroscopy, mass photoelectric absorption coefficients, appearance potential spectroscopy, thermal neutron cross sections and resonance integrals for activation analysis, tables of experimental values of Xray fluorescence and CosterKronig yields for the K, L, and Mshells.Other topics include 14 MeV neutron activation cross sections; wavelength standards in visible, ultraviolet, and nearinfrared spectroscopy; electron affinities, wavelengthdependent and electronic system oscillator strengths for free diatomic molecules of astrophysical importance; electron spin resonance applicaton to the study of minerals and glasses; experimental lifetimes, FranckCondon factors; and vibrational and rotational oscillator strengths. The concise format and wealth of information ensures that no spectroscopist will want to be without the updated and revised Practical Handbook of Spectroscopy.

I picked this up to help with my research. It's packed with useful info but some parts felt a bit too technical for me. Still, the sections on practical applications are solid! Just be prepared to do some extra digging if you're new to the subject.

Not Very User-Friendly
While the content is good, I found the layout a bit confusing. It took me a while to locate certain topics. I wish there were clearer headings or a better table of contents. It’s a decent resource but could use some improvements in usability.

A Must-Have for Science Enthusiasts
The Practical Handbook of Spectroscopy is a treasure trove of information. I've been diving into spectroscopy for my chemistry class and this book has made complex concepts much clearer. The illustrations are detailed and help visualize the experiments, which is exactly what I needed!
