Este trabajo examina las prcticas de lectoescritura en el hogar de cuatro familias mexicanas inmigrantes en Canad, con el objetivo de conocer a travs de las propias voces de los participantes, cules son las prcticas de lectoescritura en el hogar, la interrelacin de las prcticas de lectoescritura en el hogar y las prcticas de lectoescritura escolar, el papel que juega la familia como mediadora en el ejercicio de las prcticas de lectoescritura y finalmente las diferencias y semejanzas que ellos mismos encuentran entre las prcticas de lectoescritura en el hogar en Mxico y en Canad. Los datos fueron recolectados en los hogares de las familias, a travs de mtodos etnogrficos de investigacin como son entrevistas, observaciones, notas de campo y fotografas de ejemplos de lectoescritura. Dentro de los resultados, se encontr que las prcticas de lectoescritua en el hogar son una manera en que los nios y sus padres pueden permanecer en contacto con su pas de origen, con sus redes sociales y con su cultura; as mismo, son una manera de preservar y compartir sus prcticas culturales y la herencia cultural de su pas de origen.
