Los estudios de sintaxis verbal han sufrido una profunda evolucin en los ltimos decenios. En este desarrollo ha jugado un importante papel la descripcin del funcionamiento de los marcos predicativos con los que puede construirse un predicado verbal. Los marcos predicativos responden a una serie de modelos cuya estructura viene determinada por la situacin designada por el verbo. Dicha estructura es bsica y de ella dependen el resto de categoras verbales. Esta monografa es un estudio de los marcos predicativos que presentan los ms de 2500 verbos que Herdoto emplea en sus nueve libros de historia. El estudio parte de la clasificacin de las situaciones representadas con esos marcos predicativos en tres categoras de base: accin, proceso y estado. Estas categoras no son estancas, en el sentido de que un mismo verbo puede designar situaciones distintas gracias a las variaciones morfolgicas de su paradigma. Adems, se tratan por extenso otro tipo de variaciones que dependen de fenmenos conceptuales que no estn gramaticalizados.
