En Europa, las primeras experiencias de Presupuesto Participativo se llevaron a cabo en la dcada de 90 y desde entonces se ha convertido en tema de discusin central en el mbito de las polticas locales, ya sea por el reconocimiento internacional del modelo brasileo implantado en Porto Alegre que inaugur una nueva poltica de participacin ciudadana, o por intento de recuperar el inters de los ciudadanos europeos por los asuntos pblicos.
