Written by an internationally recognized teacher and researcher, this book provides a thorough, modern treatment of the aerodynamic principles of helicopters and other rotatingwing vertical lift aircraft such as tilt rotors and autogiros. The text begins with a unique technical history of helicopter flight, and then covers basic methods of rotor aerodynamic analysis, and related issues associated with the performance of the helicopter and its aerodynamic design. It goes on to cover more advanced topics in helicopter aerodynamics, including airfoil flows, unsteady aerodynamics, dynamic stall, and rotor wakes, and rotorairframe aerodynamic interactions, with final chapters on autogiros and advanced methods of helicopter aerodynamic analysis. Extensively illustrated throughout, each chapter includes a set of homework problems. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students, practising engineers, and researchers will welcome this thoroughly revised and updated text on rotatingwing aerodynamics.

The "Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics" is packed full of important information, but some parts are pretty technical. If you're new to aerodynamics, get ready for a challenge. That said, it’s a great reference for anyone in the aerospace field. I just wish the explanations were a little more straightforward!

A must-read for aspiring pilots
I picked up the Cambridge Aerospace Series book on helicopter aerodynamics, and it’s been a fantastic resource. The concepts are laid out clearly, and the diagrams really help in understanding complex principles. I’m working towards my pilot's license, and this has been essential for my studies!

Not user-friendly for beginners
Honestly, I found this book really tough to get into. The content is solid, but it felt overwhelming for someone like me who's just starting out in aerodynamics. I had hoped it would be more accessible, especially for students. Disappointed with the complexity!
