From 1770 to 1789 a succession of highly publicized cases riveted the attention of the French public. Maza argues that the reporting of these private scandals had a decisive effect on the way in which the French public came to understand public issues in the years before the Revolution.

I picked up this book on pre-revolutionary France for my history class, and it’s been a great resource. The insights into the societal structures really help to understand the causes of the revolution. The writing style is engaging, making it easier to digest complex topics. Perfect for any history enthusiast!

Not What I Expected
I had high hopes for this book, but it arrived a little damaged and the binding was loose. I’ve only skimmed through it so far, and while the content seems interesting, I wish the physical copy was in better shape. Disappointed with the quality control.
