This book examines the economic performance of dairy cooperative in java during the 19801996 periods. In fact, no wideranging or indepth research on dairy cooperatives as economic organizations has been conducted, nor has an analysis of time series been undertaken in terms of profitability, productivity and technical efficiency of cooperatives. This book proposes to fill that gap by focusing on the profitability, productivity and technical efficiency of the five cooperatives. Using financial analysis, the profitability of the five cooperative was low, meanwhile, using analysis of New Institutional Economics shows that transaction and organization cost were significant in reducing profit in the five cooperative. Using Tornqvist index number and the stochastic production frontier as tools for analysis, the productivity and technical efficiency in all cooperatives were not low. This was because Indonesian government imposed Proportional Import Ratio Policy which protected dairy cooperative during 19801996 periods. This book is useful for people involved in cooperative movement, researcher and lecturer, practitioners and students at the university.
