Lawrence Durrell composed Properos Cell as if it were a journal or diary of a year and a half on the island of Corfu, and he prefaced his statement of poetic intent by a casual comment, I am making no attempt to control all this material. Of course he really is, for this is a carefully plotted and thought-out reminiscence that covers a period from early spring to harvest time a year later (from April 1937 to September 1938, with an added postscript in 1941) -- the turning of the seasons of one special time.

I enjoyed the content of this book, as it gives a good glimpse into Corfu. However, the condition was a bit disappointing. The pages were a little worn and some had bent corners. It’s still a good resource for anyone interested in the island, but I wish the seller had been clearer about the extent of the used condition.

Not in Great Shape
I was really excited to read this guide but was let down when it arrived. The book was in pretty rough shape—cover was torn and some pages were loose. The content is interesting, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this damaged. Wouldn’t recommend if you want something you can keep on a shelf.

A Unique Insight into Corfu
Prospero's Cell is such a fascinating read! The way it describes the landscape and manners of Corcyra really brings the island to life. I bought it for my upcoming trip and it’s been super helpful in planning what to see and do. Just a heads up, it's a used copy, so don't expect it to look brand new!
