La Provence n'est plus ici le lieu, demi transform par l'imaginaire, o il a situ le plus grand nombre de ses romans. Le but, dans ces essais, est de la montrer telle qu'il la connat et telle qu'il la voit, c'estdire trs souvent l'oppos des poncifs qui se sont accumuls sur elle. De ce pays, Giono donne une vision renouvele par l'acuit de son observation, par son sens des couleurs et le bonheur de ses images.
