Sin perder de vista el horizonte del hombre como misterio intentar solamente hacer algunas consideraciones sobre su desarrollo psicolgico (captulo 1) prestando luego particular atencin a las afirmaciones de diversos autores sobre las fuerzas que lo motivan (captulo 2) y detenindome finalmente en las diversas teoras del las relaciones objetales (captulo 3) y, de modo particular, en la descripcin de las etapas del desarrollo postuladas por Otto Kernberg en el contexto de esta teora (captulo 4). Ms que un trabajo profundo de anlisis, el presente pretende ofrecer una cierta sntesis, capaz de ordenar algunas ideas sobre el tema del desarrollo. Soy consciente de que lo que se dir puede provocar ms preguntas y pistas para una profundizacin que la sensacin de estar ante un tema donde todo es 'claro y distinto'. Comencemos entonces nuestro camino tratando de no ser merecedores del enigmtico reproche de Herclito: 'los hombres no han llegado al conocimiento de este logos que ha existido desde siempre... pues viniendo todas las cosas a la existencia segn este logos, los hombres parecen gentes inexpertas, cuando ensayan palabras y actos... distinguiendo cada cosa segn su naturaleza y expresando cmo es'.
