Die pathologische Brandstiftung ist seit ber 200 Jahren Gegenstand intensiver forensischpsychiatrischer Auseinandersetzungen. Die vorliegende Arbeit zeichnet die Diskussion von ihren Anfngen bis zur Gegenwart nach und gibt einen berblick ber smtliche theoretische Konzeptionen und empirische Befunde. Anhand einer theoriegeleiteten Auswertung forensischpsychiatrischer Gutachten wird eine neue Konzeption entwickelt, die eine Revision der aktuellen Klassifikation der pathologischen Brandstiftung als Pyromanie in ICD10 und DSMIVTR nahe legt.
