Das Phnomen Depression steht vor einem sehr komplexen Hintergrund, welcher unterschiedliche mgliche Ursachen fr die Entstehung und Entwicklung heranzieht. Genauer gesagt wird insbesondere zwischen psychologischen, sozialen und biologischen Grnden unterschieden, die aber alle in einem Gesamtgefge stehen und deshalb niemals getrennt behandelt werden sollten. Depression als psychosoziobiologische Strung' gilt aufgrund ihrer Suizidmortalitt sogar als lebensgefhrliche Erkrankung (Wolkersdorf). Ein weiterer Aspekt ist die Tatsache, dass depressive Episoden hufig in Zusammenhang mit anderen schweren psychischen sowie somatischen Erkrankungen stehen, so genannte Ko und Multimorbilitt (sekundre Depression'), dadurch knnen Behandlungsweisen zustzlich erschwert werden. Angesichts der betrachteten multifaktoriellen Intervention ist es notwendig, innerhalb der Therapiemanahmen besonders psychotherapeutische (z.B. die kognitive Verhaltenstherapie), psychosoziale (z.B. die Interpersonelle Psychotherapie) und biologische (z.B. antidepressive Medikamente oder Bewegungstherapie) Behandlungsmanahmen zu integrieren und mit zu bercksichtigen.
