Product Description This book is a collection of essays that analyse and discuss EU information and communication policies and activities towards, with, by different publics developed both by the EU institutions at the European, national and local levels and by public organizations and civil society actors. The core theme is 'Communicating the EU'. Throughout six thematic parts, the authors examine from different theoretical perspectives (political communication, journalism, public relations and public diplomacy, political science, and cultural studies) and reflect on what it means for the European Union to communicate in multinational and multicultural settings. The originality and strength of this book stand on the capacity to discuss EU communication policies, strategies and actions in their diverse features and, at the same time, to have a clear general picture of the role and function that communication has within the European Union's governance. The combination of different theoretical frameworks with the latest empirical research findings in the areas of Communication and the European Union make this book a fresh and fascinated collection of insights of what the European Union can achieve with strategic communications. About the Author Chiara Valentini (Ph.D. in Organizational Communication and Public Relations) is Assistant Professor at the Department of Language and Business Communication, Aarhus School of Business at Aarhus University (Denmark), where she teaches courses in public and political communication and public relations. Her research interests focus on public relations, public and political communication, public affairs and public diplomacy, international and intercultural communication and the European Union. Giorgia Nesti (Ph.D in European and Comparative Politics) is Assistant Professor at the Department of Historical and Political Studies at the University of Padova (Italy), and she teaches Communication Policy in Europe at the Faculty of Communication Science. Her research interests focus on European Integration, European governance and regulation, media market and public communication.
