Grovater Wrli ist verreist und somit muss Pumilus die Arbeit im Wald bernehmen. Dabei kmmert er sich um den Erhalt und den Schutz des Waldes, die Verteidigung aller Tiere und Naturwesen in der Hirschberger Loh. Durch seine Freundin, der kleinen Elster Picnelda, wird er mit dem Eremiten, Pater Lomba,bekannt gemacht. Beide fhlen sich zueinander hingezogen und beginnen eine enge Freundschaft. Pater Lomba bestrkt den kleinen Kobold in seinen Glauben an das Universum und zeigt ihm auf, dass man sich auf das Wichtige im Leben besinnen soll und es vorleben muss. Bei Pater Lomba hrt Pumilus auch zum ersten Mal Das Lied von der Freude', das der Eremit auf seiner Zaubergeige vorspielt. Von nun an geht Pumilus die Melodie nicht mehr aus dem Kopf, allerdings den Text kann er nicht behalten. Doch eines Tages ndert sich das, grad in dem Moment, wo er sich in groer Not befindet. Aber vorher gibt es noch etliche andere Dinge zu erledigen. Wie schon im ersten Teil warten groe Abenteuer auf den kleinen Wicht. Mit alten und neuen Freunden kmpft er in einer globalisierten Welt um den Freistaat Bayern und seine geliebte Oberpfalz. Dabei fhlt er zum ersten Mal den zarten Hauch einer Schwrmerei und rettet seine Prinzessin Socolatia aus den Fngen des bsen Zauberers Mandevu.
