This concise study analyzes the motif of the labyrinth in Kafkas Proze, Hesses Steppenwolf, and Manns Zauberberg as a signifier of the cultural crisis of the early 20th century. Josef K., Harry Haller, and Hans Castorp seek the meaning of life in confusing, labyrinthine worlds. Dr. Kenosian links the thematic configurations relating to the figures process of selfrealization to the thinking of Nietzsche and Heidegger who, either explicitly or implicitly, rethink the significance of corporeality for philosophy.

This book has been super helpful for my literature class! The breakdown of recurring themes in Kafka's and Mann's work is clear and insightful. I wish there were more visuals or diagrams, though. It would have made some concepts easier to grasp.

Not What I Expected
I was excited to read studies on Kafka and Hesse but found the writing a bit dense at times. Some sections felt repetitive, which was a letdown. Still, it's packed with interesting interpretations if you're willing to dig through it.
