Few buildings capture the splendor of Portugals royal past as well as the enchanting palace and gardens of Queluz. Designed by architect Jean Baptiste Robillion in the French Rococo style during the second half of the eighteenth century the palace and gardens quickly became the royal familys favorite summer residence. The book opens with a survey of the history and origins of the palace, and continues with a lavishly illustrated tour of the principal enfilade of rooms. Particular attention throughout is devoted to the architecture, the decoration and furnishings, all of which were carefully designed to create a sense of stylistic harmony. In studying the architecture and development of the formal gardens, this unique book highlights Robillions other principal achievement at Queluz: his use of classical statues, lakes and fountains, and carefully contrived vistas to create a mythological route of discovery abounding with antique gods and heroes.

I visited the Queluz Palace and Gardens last week, and it was breathtaking. The intricate architecture and beautifully manicured gardens are a must-see for any history buff or nature lover. You can easily spend a whole day exploring!

Disappointing Visit
I was really looking forward to visiting Queluz but left feeling let down. Parts of the garden looked neglected and the palace wasn't as grand as I hoped. Disappointed, but maybe I expected too much?

Enchanting Gardens!
If you love gardens, you have to check out Queluz! The color palette and variety of plants were stunning. I took tons of photos! Just be prepared for those steep walkways. Bring comfy shoes!

A Bit Overhyped
While the palace is pretty, I expected more from the gardens based on reviews. Some areas seemed a bit unkempt. It’s nice but not as magical as I thought it would be. Worth a visit if you’re nearby!

Stunning but Crowded
The gardens at Queluz are absolutely gorgeous! However, it was quite crowded during my visit which made it difficult to enjoy the scenery fully. Still worth it for the beauty and history!
