Product Description Ignoring the jeers of the other bunnies, Ruben Rabbit goes about the fancy prancing and dancing he loves, and he eventually gains recognition for it in a contest. From School Library Journal PreSchoolGrade 2 Dare to be different is the theme of this lessthaninspiring story. Ignoring his fellow rabbits' taunts that "Rabbits can't dance," Ruben Rabbit wins a contest with his dazzling display of pawwork. Unfortunately, neither text nor pictures reflect Ruben's exuberance. The rhyme is often forced, and the ideas expressed inane: "One rabbit ate carrots. One hopped to and fro./ Another hid eggs. Was it Easter? Oh no." Even more offputting than the slight text are the hideous pictures, executed in an assortment of army green, rust, gray, and other drab shades. The poorly drawn rabbits bear a faint resemblance to Scottish terriers with their bearded whiskers. The page layout is awkward, with a heavy black border, inhibiting readers rather than inviting them. Even the size and spacing of the text is unattractive. This book looks every inch a lowbudget production, and does not deserve space on any library shelf. Ruth Smith, Chicago Pub . Lib .Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.
