This updated edition of the innovative book Minorities and the Media sheds light on the historical relationship between the four largest racial groups and the mainstream media in the United States. Focusing on Hispanics, African Americans, Native Americans and Asian Americans, the book illustrates that while the term minority is no longer accurate in many cases, inequities among the four groups persist, and that the notion of mass media has now diversified into media which are targeted at specific, often racially defined, audiences. Through an examination of cinema, television, radio, newspapers, magazines, advertising and a new chapter on public relations, the book demonstrates how the four groups are represented by the various media.

I picked up this book for my sociology class, and it's been a real eye-opener. The insights on how media shapes our understanding of multiculturalism are fascinating. It’s a bit dense at times, but if you’re into communication studies, it’s a must-have!

Disappointing; Lacked Practical Examples
I had high hopes for this book, but I found it to be more theoretical than practical. While it covers important topics, I was hoping for more real-world examples of how media impacts race relations today. Kind of a letdown for what I needed.

Thought-Provoking but Lengthy
This book offers some good points on race and media, but I found it to be a long read. The discussions about mass vs. class communication are intriguing, though I wish it had been a bit more concise. Ideal for scholars, not so much for casual readers.

A Must for Media Studies Enthusiasts
As a media studies major, this book is a treasure trove of information! It dives deep into multiculturalism and offers a unique perspective on communication methods. I really appreciated the thorough research. Highly useful for essays and projects.
