Los sensores radar son los elementos fundamentales de los sistemas para la seguridad y la defensa por su papel en la obtencin todo tiempo de los datos bsicos que permiten el funcionamiento de los sistemas de control de trfico terrestre, areo y martimo, vigilancia, guiado de armas, mando y control, inteligencia, etc. En los ltimos aos, la introduccin de los Radares de Alta Resolucin (HRR), que proporcionan mucha ms informacin que sus equivalentes convencionales, ha permitido dotar a los mencionados sistemas de nuevas capacidades en la localizacin e identificacin de blancos que estn abriendo nuevos campos de aplicacin. En esta Tesis, tras describir los aspectos bsicos de estos sensores y analizar las tcnicas utilizadas hasta ahora, se propone un nuevo algoritmo, denominado de Retardo y Convolucin, que se aplica tanto a la localizacin de los blancos como a su clasificacin e identificacin mediante la determinacin precisa de sus puntos calientes. Dicho algoritmo se ha caracterizado completamente mediante estudios analticos, simulacin y experimentos en campo con dos prototipos radar, demostrando las grandes posibilidades del mismo, incluso en escenarios LPI.
