DasharathaS Character In The Ramayana Is Unique. He Has The Honor Of Being The Father Of Shri Ram, The Incarnation Of Vishnu Himself. Dasharatha Not Only Rejoiced In Having The Lord As His Child, But Also Paid The Price. Vasudeva, Devaki, Nanda And Yashoda All Paid This Price. None Of Them Were Able To Keep The Lord As Their Child. Dasharatha Did Not Bind Ram, Even Though There Were Strong Reasons For Doing So. Dasharatha Yearned For A Son Until His Old Age; Even An Ordinary Son Would Have Been A Blessing. Fortunately, Through The Grace Of His Guru, He Was Blessed With Shri Ram, The Incarnation Of Vishnu Himself. Losing Such A Son By Sending Him Into Exile Was Not An Easy Task. But Dasharatha Did Not Stop Ram By Using Deceit And Trickery, Citing His Fatherly Love. He Prayed Earnestly For Ram To Stop, But He Himself Never Asked Him To Stop. How Could Dasharatha, A Man Of Righteous Conduct, Stop His Son From Following The Path Of Righteousness? By Fulfilling His Promises, King Dasharatha Not Only Gave Dignity To His Character But Also Inspired Rama To Behave With Dignity. Had Dasharatha Shown Pettiness, It Would Have Been Difficult For Rama To Become Great. The King Of Ayodhya Faced A Difficult Problem. He Had To Fulfill Both His Promise And His Love. Both Were In Conflict With Each Other. Keeping His Promise Meant Throwing Away His Love For Rama, And Fulfilling His Love Meant Losing His True Resolve. He Did Both. He Kept His Promise To Kaikeyi And Also Fulfilled His Love By Sacrificing His Life For Rama.
