A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERSteam is rising over Discworld, driven by Mister Simnel, the man with a flat cap and a sliding rule. He has produced a great clanging monster of a machine that harnesses the power of all of the elementsearth, air, fire, and waterand its soon drawing astonished crowds. To the consternation of AnkhMorporks formidable Patrician, Lord Vetinari, no one is in charge of this new invention. This needs to be rectified, and who better than the man he has already appointed master of the Post Office, the Mint, and the Royal Bank: Moist von Lipwig. Moist is not a man who enjoys hard workunless it is dependent on words, which are not very heavy and dont always need greasing. He does enjoy being alive, however, which makes a new job offer from Vetinari hard to refuse.Moist will have to grapple with gallons of grease, goblins, a fat controller with a history of throwing employees down the stairs, and some very angry dwarfs if hes going to stop it all from going off the rails . . .

I liked 'Raising Steam' but didn’t find it as captivating as earlier Discworld books. The story felt a bit drawn out at times, and I missed some of the older characters. Nevertheless, it’s still a decent read for fans who want to keep going with the series.

Disappointed with the story pacing
I was really looking forward to reading 'Raising Steam', but I found it tough to get through. The pacing felt slow, and I found myself drifting away from the plot. I expected more excitement based on previous Discworld novels. Not my favorite, that’s for sure.

Mixed Feelings About This One
I bought 'Raising Steam' for my husband who loves Discworld. He enjoyed parts of it but mentioned that it felt a bit repetitive compared to other books in the series. The steam engine concept was cool, though! I'm glad I got it for him, but I think he prefers the earlier ones.
