Celebrating the 20th year of publication of The New International Atlas , the standard in world atlases, the Anniversary Edition features completely updated maps, tables, and index. It retains the internationality of its approach with a multilingual format that includes English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish; this approach is carried over into the maps through the utilization of the metric system of measurement, and particularly by a strong emphasis on the use of local forms for geographic names. The Atlas uses shaded relief on most of its maps. The sequence of maps begins with the series of world, continent, and ocean maps, followed by three series of regional maps, and finally a series of metropolitan maps.
