Wibert, als Clemens III. Gegenpapst Heinrichs IV. gegen Gregor VII. und Urban II., wurde bisher einseitig in seiner papstlichen Funktion gesehen, nicht jedoch in derjenigen als Erzbischof von Ravenna, in der er bis zu seinem Lebensende unangefochten blieb. Erst die Aufarbeitung unveroffentlichten archivalischen Materials ermoglichte es, seine erzbischofliche Tatigkeit genauer zu erfassen und auf der Grundlage so gewonnener Ergebnisse auch neue Perspektiven in die Frage der 'Ravennater Falschungen' und der 'Ravennater Rechtsschule' einzubringen. Die Zuordnung der Falschungen und des sogenannten Petrus Crassus zu Ravenna sowie die 'Ravennater Rechtsschule' werden von der Autorin in Zweifel gezogen.
