Months before the outbreak of World War II, Heinrich Himmler—prime architect of the Holocaust—designed a special concentration camp for women, located fifty miles north of Berlin. Only a small number of the prisoners were Jewish. I appreciated the depth of research in this book, but I found it quite heavy emotionally. It’s not a light read by any means. The descriptions of life in the camp are vivid and heartbreaking, which is what I expected. Just be prepared for a tough journey.
