El presente estudio aborda el tema de razas y racismo en textos de lectura infanto juvenil. Mediante el anlisis de contenido de una monumental obra que alcanz masividad desde comienzos del siglo XX en gran parte de Latinoamrica la presente investigacin analiza las caracterizaciones que de los diferentes grupos humanos en ella representados se sostienen, vinculadas a la presencia de racismo. El trabajo se enfoca en el anlisis de El Tesoro de la Juventud, enciclopedia construida a partir de la obra inglesa The Book of Knowledge, que circul en La Argentina, al igual que en diversos pases de Amrica Latina, a partir 1915 y hasta mediados de la dcada de 1960, y que fue material de lectura en hogares y escuelas. En sintona con resultados de otras investigaciones sobre racismo discursivo, este trabajo muestra una marcada infravaloracin de grupos humanos no europeos a quienes se les asigna rasgos de no saber, de retraso, barbarie y conservadurismo, en consonancia con el contexto de un mundo colonizado por pases de Europa y juzgado segn sus valores e intereses.
