Because policy must be considered to promote change of any sort in reading education, this collection aims to help reading educators, reading researchers, and administrators become knowledgeable about policies and policymaking, and ultimately, choose a course of action based on this new knowledge. Editors Patrick Shannon and Jacqueline Edmondson have organized the articles into three sections: PolicyDriven Work, Policy Communications Concerns, and Critical Policy Action. Taken together, these articles will help you analyze policy issues; engage in policymaking with greater understanding; and question reading policy, policymaking, and research on policy. Rather than represent a single position on any issue or limit the discussion to current policies at state and national levels, the selected articles review a variety of policies to help you understand reading policies and policymaking at any level. The more you know about policies, the more you will raise questions about them, and the more involved you become in their debate, the more powerful you can be in your decisionmaking efforts on behalf of reading education.
