Die Arbeiten umfassen eine Spanne von mehr als fiinfzig J ahren. Die Zeiten andern sich und wir andern uns mit ihnen. So wird der Leser in dieser Sammlung den EinfluB wechselnder auBerer Lebensbedingungen und rasch fortschreitender wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse, manche Wiederho lung, vielleicht sogar Widerspriiche feststellen. Er wird aber erkennen, daB meine Uberlegungen stets urn das eine Thema kreisten, von dem sie sich auch he ute noch nicht losen konnen: urn die sittlichen Pflichten und die hohen Werte unseres Berufes und die Sorge urn seinen Bestand in einer veranderten menschlichen Gesellschaft. Der befreundete Jurist HansLudwig Schreiber hat mich nicht nur nach driicklich davon zu iiberzeugen vermocht, daB eine solche Zusammenfassung wiinschenswert sei, ich verdanke ihm auch manchen guten Rat und die Er laubnis zur Aufnahme gemeinsamer Arbeiten in diesem Rahmen. Das Erschei nen des Bandes in vorliegendem Umfange wurde durch den Mitinhaber des SpringerVerlags Heinz Gotze verstandnisvoll gefordert. Ihm sei hierdurch gedankt.
