Mit dieser Publikation liegt der Tagungsband zur ersten Veranstaltung der Regensburger Kolloquien im Alten Reichstag, welche vom 23.26.10.1991 stattfand, vor. Ausgewiesene Fachwissenschaftler aus den verschiedenen europischen Lndern ermitteln in dieser Thematik vor dem Hintergrund der jeweiligen nationalen Problematik. Sie gelangen von dort aus zu einer vergleichenden europischen Perspektive. Dabei ist der Ansatz des Bandes jedoch kein 'sozialtechnologischer'. Es geht vielmehr darum, die Probleme der europischen Integration als Produkt der historisch gewachsenen kulturellen Vielfalt unseres Kontinents herauszuarbeiten. Auf diese Weise wird im Bewutsein einer breiteren ffentlichkeit Verstndnis fr die Grenzen und Mglichkeiten europapolitischer Strategien geweckt. Zudem soll die Darstellung der historischen Erfahrung in anderen europischen Lndern auch dazu beitragen, die eigene nationale Erfahrung zu relativieren.
