Roscher ist von seiner Dreiteilung der Entwicklung des Absolutismus in Europa berzeugt. Er geht von einer kontinuierlichen Steigerung aus, die mit einem konfessionellen" Absolutismus beginnt, sich in einen hfischen" Absolutismus wandelt und schlielich im aufgeklrten" Absolutismus mndet. Mit Reinhold Koser erfhrt die Absolutismusforschung des 19. Jahrhundert einen weiteren Ansatz zur Entwicklung des absolutistischen Prinzips. Koser bezweifelt, dass Roschers Modell ein durchgreifendes Prinzip beschreibt. Anhand eines Aufsatzes in der Historischen Zeitschrift zeigt Koser nunmehr seine Ansichten ber die politischen Entwicklungen in Europa zwischen dem 16. und 18. Jahrhundert auf. Die Vorstellung seiner Person, seiner Historischen Zeitlage und die Interpretation seiner berlegungen sind Bestandteil dieser Arbeit. Am Ende werden die Anstze Roschers und Kosers kontrastiert.
