Diese Einzelsysteme unterscheiden sich zum Teil ganz grundlegend, etwa im Hinblick auf ihre Leistungs und Finanzierungsprinzipien, ihre organisatorischen Strukturen und nicht zuletzt hinsichtlich der angestrebten Sicherungsziele. Nach der entsprechenden Zuordnung dieser Einzelsysteme spricht man vom 3SulenSystem der Alterssicherung. Innerhalb der 1. Sule wird eine Reihe von Einzelsystemen der Alterssicherung unterschieden, deren gemeinsames Merkmal es ist, dass sie ffentlichrechtlich organisiert sind. Die gRV ist das wichtigste Einzelsystem der 1. Sule. Sie ist das obligatorische Pflichtsystem fr die abhngig beschftigten Arbeiter und Angestellten sowie einige Gruppen von Selbstndigen. Innerhalb der 2. Sule ist vor allem zwischen der betrieblichen Altersversorgung in der Privatwirtschaft und der Zusatzversorgung der Arbeiter und Angestellten des ffentlichen Dienstes zu unterscheiden. In der Privatwirtschaft ist die betriebliche Altersversorgung sehr unterschiedlich organisiert, z.B. im Hinblick auf den einbezogenen Personenkreis, die Leistungen und die Art der Finanzierung. Unter der 3. Sule der Alterssicherung der privaten Altersvorsorge wird generell die individuelle Vermgensbildung verstanden, soweit sie der Erzielung von Einknften im Alter dient. Mit der Einfhrung der staatlich gefrderten zustzlichen Altersvorsorge und der gleichzeitig beschlossenen langfristigen Absenkung des Rentenniveaus werden die betriebliche und die private Altersvorsorge langfristig stark an Bedeutung gewinnen.
