Das vorliegende Buch hat den Zweck, manche Haupteigen schaften sowohl der gewohnlichen als auch der partiellen Differen tialgleichungen, die bei Anwendungen haufig auftreten, kurz in Erinnerung zu bringen. Die Sache ist aber auf so knappem Raum nur dadurch moglich gewesen, daB ich mich prinzipiell auf Anfangswertprobleme be schrankt habe. Dementsprechend fallen hier die (allerdings so wichtigen) Eigenwertprobleme bei gewohnlichen Differentialglei chungen und die partiellen Gleichungen vom elliptischen Typus vollstandig aus. AuBerdem wird hier der elementarste Teil der Theorie (trennbare Gleichungen usw.), den man tiberall finden kann, nicht behandelt. Allerdings findet man in diesem Repertorium etwas tiber par tielle Differentialgleichungen vom gemischten Typus, nicht nur well diese Theorie zum groBen Teil vom Verfasser entwickelt wurde, sondern weil Angaben dartiber sonst schwer zu finden sind. Die Schreibart ist zum groBen Teil enzyklopadisch, daher werden meistens die Beweise unterdrtickt oder nur skizziert. Trotz dem sollen die angcgebenen Winke gentigen, den Geist der ver schiedenen Satze richtig zu erfassen, so daB manchmal dieses Btich lein allein fi.ir viele Anwendungen gentigend sein mag. Insbesondere wird der numerischen Behandlung der betrachteten Probleme immer die pass en de Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt.
